Now we are ready to start.

Speaker A

I live in an old house that once belonged to my parents and, before that, to my grandparents. All my childhood and youth memories are tied to this house. I lived on my own in another city when I started my own family, but now that our children are grown up and have families of their own, my husband and I have moved back here. People talk about haunted houses. I don't believe in ghosts, but if houses could have souls, I'd say, this one does. It certainly has a character of its own.

Speaker B

I've never had a house of my own. I move all the time. As a scientist, I usually work on contracts that last three or four years, so when one ends, I begin looking for a new position. It's always an adventure - one I truly enjoy. I've lived in multiple US states and several European countries, and now I'm about to move to Japan! I go wherever my career takes me. I probably will settle down one day, but for now, I love experiencing new cultures, learning new languages and meeting new people. It's all fascinating!

Speaker C

I come from a very rural part of Ohio, where my parents still live. They have a big house and a farm. But I always dreamed of living in a big city. So, after college, I moved to New York. These days, making a living in New York takes courage, hard work and perseverance. It took me a while to figure out how to succeed here. However, last year, I finally managed to buy a place of my own! It's a tiny studio apartment on Manhattan, but it's all mine - and I love it!

Speaker D

I often hear people from my parents' generation say that my generation is lazy and immature. They claim that by the time they were our age, they already had good jobs, families and houses of their own. However, I don't think it's a fair comparison. House prices have tripled, if not quadrupled since their time, while salaries have barely doubled. Many college graduates today can't even afford to rent an apartment on their own and have to find roommates just to get by.

Speaker E

A year ago, when the last of our four children got married, my husband and I sold our big family house and used this money to buy a small house and a really comfortable trailer, an RV rather, a recreational vehicle! To be honest, this has been our dream for a long time. We really wanted to travel around the country, see the sights and experience true freedom without having to rely on hotels. So far, we've visited most of New England, and we're planning to head to Florida for the winter months.

Speaker F

Three years ago, I did something most of my friends and relatives thought was crazy. I bought a house in Detroit. Yes, I knew about the crime rate and everything, but I also believed it couldn't stay this way forever. Because of the crime rate, I was able to buy a fantastic red brick 3-bedroom house for the price that wouldn't be enough to buy the smallest studio in Chicago. Now the situation in Detroit is much better, and I'm certain it will soon become one of the best cities to live in!
