38.1. Nowadays young people have lots of interests as well as problems they would like to share with their friends. The aim of the project I am currently working on is to find out what kinds of friends teenagers have in Zetland. As part of my project, I have found and analyzed some relevant data presented in the table.
According to the data, the youth in Zetland have quite a wide range of kinds of friends. The vast majority of the respondents consider their schoolmates are their close friends, 50% of the teenagers have mentioned it. Also, a great number of the adolescents have online friends as well as friends who they go to some clubs with (20% and 15% respectively), whereas the teenagers share their secrets with their family members quite rarely.
It is worth mentioning that schoolmates are three times as important as online friends for the adolescence. To my mind, younger generation can rely on those who they know in real life more than virtual friends.
One problem that can arise with friendship is that sometimes even close friends quarrel and do not know how to settle this disagreement. One solution to this problem is to call special centres there psychologists can give them advice.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that friendship is very important for teenagers. I think it can develop their social skills. (227 words)
38.2. Nowadays teenagers choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. While doing a project on fields where teenagers help as volunteers in Zetland, I have found a diagram containing some relevant data that I am going to comment on.
According to the data, 40% of the young volunteers in Zetland are helping to organize different cultural events such as concerts and festivals. As much as 30% of the surveyed are involved in various sporting events, for instance, they are ball boys and girls during tennis tournaments. Being volunteers in social programmes is chosen by 15% of the respondents.
The data analysis reveals that volunteering at school, chosen by 6% of the polled, is only by 3% less popular than eco-volunteering, favoured by 9% of the teenagers in Zetland. It is not surprising, because ecological problems are topical nowadays and the adolescents understand their responsibility of the future of the planet.
Although volunteerism is per se doing something noble and serving those who need care and affection, it can be time-consuming and this seems to be a problem. To solve this problem, one should look for volunteer opportunities that require only a few hours of spare time each month, otherwise school or university studies will be neglected.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that teenagers should become volunteers since it gives them sense of coherence and inclusion. Besides, volunteering provides both emotional and psychological benefits. (233 words)
