Выберите только ОДНО из двух предложенных заданий (40.1 или 40.2). Укажите его номер и выполните согласно данному плану. В ответе на задание 40 числительные пишите цифрами.
40.1 Imagine that you are doing a project on the elements found in the Earth’s crust. You have collected some data on the subject (see the table below).
Comment on the data in the table and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.
| Element | Percentage |
|---|---|
| Oxygen | 49.1% |
| Silicon | 26% |
| Aluminium | 7.5% |
| Iron | 4.2% |
| Calcium | 3.3% |
| Sodium | 2.4% |
Write 200−250 words. Use the following plan:
— make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
— select and report 2−3 main features;
— make 1−2 comparisons where relevant;
— outline a problem that can arise with the elements contained in the crust of the Earth and suggest the way of solving it;
— draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the importance of having access to various elements
40.2 Imagine that you are doing a project on the population of the endangered black rhino. You have collected some data on the subject (see the diagram below).
Comment on the data in the diagram and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.
Write 200−250 words. Use the following plan:
— make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
— select and report 2−3 main features;
— make 1−2 comparisons where relevant;
— outline a problem that can arise with the decreasing population of black rhinos and suggest the way of solving it;
— draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the importance of black rhino population
40.1. The elements found in the Earth’s crust reflect if the land is fertile or not. My project, which I am still working on, is aimed at finding out the elements found in the Earth’s crust. I have found some data on this issue and organized it in the table below
I can identify two main features of the statistics presented in the table below. The first one is that the earth crust contains 49,1% of oxygen. The second is that only a 2,4% of sodium is found in the Earth’s crust.
It is also worth mentioning that silicon is the element with the second most highest percentage found in the Earth’s crust.
In my opinion, the statistics in the table reveal an important problem.The concentration of the elements found in the earth’s crust needs to be in optimal percentages to ensure its fertility. I think that in order to solve this problem the government of every country should implement regulations and programs to maintain the earth’s crust in their territories healthy and within optimal concentration of the elements found in the table below.
In conclusion, I believe that keeping the earth’s crust in healthy conditions is a priority for every country and it could help the overall fertility of territories used for agriculture.

40.2. Black rhinos are magnificent creatures that live in Africa and are famous for their horns. Sadly, they are endangered and are under threat of extinction. My project, which I am still working on, is aimed at finding out the changes in the population of the black rhino. I have found some data on this issue and organised it in the graph below.
I can identify two main features of the statistics presented in the chart. The first one is that the peak population of the species was reached back in 1960, at about 100 000. The second one is that in 1991 it has reached the lowest point yet.
It is also worth mentioning that the highest fall in the number of rhinos was between 1970 and 1980.
In my opinion, the statistics in the table reveal an important problem. Due to armed conflicts on the continent and poachers, the number of black rhinos has fallen sharply in the last half-century. To solve this problem, organisations around the world and governments of Africa should come together to protect this endangered species from the threat of extinction.
In conclusion, I believe that the world community should do everything it can to save the black rhino and bring its population back to the former numbers.
