Выберите только ОДНО из двух предложенных заданий (40.1 или 40.2). Укажите его номер и выполните согласно данному плану. В ответе на задание 40 числительные пишите цифрами.
40.1 Imagine that you are doing a project on the composition of air. You have collected some data on the subject (see the table below).
Comment on the data in the table and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.
| Gas | Percentage in the air |
|---|---|
| Nitrogen | 78% |
| Oxygen | 20.9% |
| Argon | 0.93% |
| Carbon dioxide | 0.04% |
Write 200−250 words. Use the following plan:
— make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
— select and report 2−3 main features;
— make 1−2 comparisons where relevant;
— outline a problem that can arise with the air composition and suggest the way of solving it;
— draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the importance of clean air in the modern world
40.2 Imagine that you are doing a project on the number of lakes in various countries. You have collected some data on the subject (see the diagram below).
Comment on the data in the diagram and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.

40.1. Air is the most important aspect on Earth that allows for the existence of life on its surface. The composition of the atmosphere is vital for the survival of humanity, as any significant change in it could destroy all of our civilisation. My project, which I am still working on, is aimed at finding out the composition of air. I have found some data on this issue and organised it in the table below.
I can identify two main features of the statistics presented in the chart. The first one is that nitrogen is by far the most prevalent element that makes up air, at 78%. The second one is that carbon dioxide only accounts for 0.04% of the air.
It is also worth mentioning that the amount of oxygen is only about four times smaller than that of nitrogen.
In my opinion, the statistics in the table reveal an important problem. CO2, which is the main reason behind climate change, makes up a tiny percentage of the air we breathe, meaning humanity can change the concentration of it and cause a terrible feedback loop. To solve this problem, companies and governments around the world should take a more responsible approach to CO2 emissions, reducing them to a minimum.
In conclusion, I believe that the composition of the air that we breathe should be kept at what it was for thousands of years, so that humanity wouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of changing it.

40.2. Lakes are an important aspect of earth’s biodiversity and its natural source of drinking water. My project, which I am still working on, is aimed at finding out the number of lakes in various countries. I have found some data on this issue and organized it in the chart below.
I can identify two main features of the statistics presented in the chart below. The first one is that the country with the highest number of lakes is Canada with around 890000. The second one is that the country with the lowest number of lakes is Sweden and China with 20000.
It is also worth mentioning that Russia is the country with the second highest number of lakes with around 200000.
In my opinion, the statistics in the chart reveal an important problem. The highest number of lakes are focused only in Canada, this could lead to a risk on a natural source of drinking water to the world. I think that in order to solve this problem the Canadian government should focus on keeping their lakes well taken care of and at optimal conditions for their use as a source of drinking water.
In conclusion, I believe that taking care of the lakes of the country with the highest number of lakes in the world should be a priority worldwide.
